Or we can combine personality-type understanding with a project definition workshop. What a great start for your project - you know what you have to do, and you've found out how you can all work together more effectively!

Comments from people attending this course and similar courses run by Actalpha:

"Very stimulating . . . practical work fun but useful . . . Hugely interesting, very useful ... l"
Andrew Emmett, Director of Finance & I.T., Audit Commission, after a "Better Projects" course

"Well run, interesting the whole time, interactive, practical"
Sarah Coe

"By all accounts the day was a huge success. The SoulTimers loved your teaching, as well as the gentle and clear way in which you delivered it. I'm sure that all the SoulTimers are more self-aware as a result of the day, and thus are more challenged to develop their weaker areas to become more effective in life and ministry"
Chuck Freeland, Course Leader for the Soul-Time Programme run by Soul Survivor, Watford

“It was very helpful to know about my personality and also what personality-types I have learned over the years (cultural and environmental)"
Motivating. Fairly enlightening on self-evaluation - big surprises. I know others in the team better than I knew myself!.”
Members of World Vision Supporter Recruitment Team after  a team personality-type course

"I found it incredibly interesting but also enormously helpful, both from a personal viewpoint and to help me understand why I find certain frustrations when working with others - due to both my personality and theirs…..Thanks again.  I feel a lot more able to cope with what I had previously seen as the major frustrations of the job.  I can understand why I react in the way I do and, hopefully, will be able to see what should be done, instead.”
Kim Bolsover, Post Office Project Manager, on a team personality-type course

Course leaders

The course has been designed by Mike Cashman who is an experienced programme and project manager and management trainer,  with qualifications including PRINCE, Programme Management, Personality Assessment and a Cranfield MBA.  The course is delivered by experienced project managers who are qualified MBTI personality-type assessors - such as Mike Cashman, Steve Reynolds, Graham Clark.

One of Mike's major professional interests is to improve understanding of the influence of team / project personality combinations on the success of major change programmes and projects. He believes that any organisation’s ability to change depends on its culture, and its culture is very influenced by the personality of the leader and his or her team – and so leaders and project managers must understand their own personalities in order to make projects succeed and to make change happen.

Personality-type with MBTI

  • The MBTI method is probably the most widely-used and most researched means of considering personality-type.
  • An MBTI principle is that the person concerned is best able, with help from a qualified professional, to make their own assessment of their own personality.
  • The MBTI process should always be used to empower and open up choices, not to imply limitations.
  • If you are a project manager who has ever been unsatisfied with the result of a personality assessment, we would encourage you to have a better experience by coming to this course.

The phrase “personality-type” in this course description is used here to refer to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
® Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and MBTI are registered UK and US trademarks of Consulting Psychologists Press Inc. Oxford Psychologists Press (OPP) is the exclusive licensee of the trademarks in the UK. MBTI testing materials are supplied exclusively by OPP in the UK only for use by registered and trained professionals who have signed up to the OPP ethics code for the use of the MBTI questionnaire. MBTI assessment conducted in accordance with this ethics code always includes a face-to-face session (individual or group) to assist in the self-assessment of personality-type, and never relies solely on questionnaire results.

Actalpha personality-type courses are led by one or more qualified assessors of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator ® who have signed up to the OPP Ltd code of ethics for the use of the MBTI ® assessment.

Why should project staff look at personality-type ?

What’s different about professional use of MBTI assessment?

  • You are the expert – the questionnaire is only a guide. Your experience counts.
  • The assessment provides the key to your current gifts and to your future development, and can point the way to specific activities that you can use to further your development.
  • The insights can help you in all areas of your life - e.g. family as well as work. In our experience this means there is deeper insight and better opportunity to explore the meaning of the assessment
  • The framework celebrates diversity. As a result areas of conflict can become valued differences.
  • The framework points the way to the very different problem-solving processes used in projects, and can be used to create a balanced approach.

Hence MBTI™ provides unique insights and guidance to project staff.

The fact that MBTI is an open method (controlled to prevent unqualified use, but open to all who are professionally qualified in its use) has enabled it to become the basis of widespread academic and professional research. We have distilled the most relevant items of research, together with our own experience, to present to you the most useful insights for project staff that we can bring to you within 2 days.

As far as we know, this is the only course in Europe that applies MBTI insights explicitly to aspects of project management across the project management lifecycle. (Please phone 01908-233516 or email us you believe otherwise - we'll change this assertion if any qualified competitor has developed a project-management-oriented course applying insights from MBTI assessment).
